Earth Science (6th-7th grade)

Katherine Schilling, Instructor

Earth Science is a good course to acquaint your student with God's amazing creation. Each quarter will cover one of four different aspects of the physical environment: the geology and topography of the earth, oceanic characteristics and features, elements of weather and meteorology, and the astronomy of our solar and galactic neighborhood. This course will present Christian worldviews and will help students to appreciate the care with which God created our world. Students will be evaluated through tests, lab activities, class worksheets, and projects. No high school credit or honors option.

Physical Science (8th grade)

Katherine Schilling, Instructor

This course will establish the groundwork for high school level chemistry and physics.  Although this is not considered a lab science, it will involve multiple experiments to build proficiency with using the scientific method and to deepen conceptual understanding.  First semester will focus on key topics in chemistry (atomic theory, matter and energy, and reactions) and second semester will focus on key topics in physics (motion, forces, energy, waves, electricity, and magnetism). Students will be expected to complete reading and worksheet assignments outside of class to facilitate and reinforce class discussions and experiments/projects. Other evaluation will include quizzes, tests, homework, and projects. For 8th graders, this course may be taken for high school credit as a science elective. Please check with your accountability association for details/permission. No honors option.

It is recommended that students take Pre-algebra either before or concurrent with this course.
